The Census is coming!

The first digital Census ever will be April 1st this year. C.A.C.A. Portland is offering training and outreach to groups interested in understanding why this is critical to our communities. Commonly communities of color are undercounted in every Census. This means a loss of federal funds to our state for section 8 low-income housing, school lunch programs, veteran and senior services, roads and transportation, public hospitals, Medicaid, unemployment, and local community programs. We estimate that for every person counted (yes, babies too!), it is $3200 per person each year for ten years or until the next Census. Additionally, due to population growth, Oregon will also add a representative in Congress.
There will be an informational session in English and Mandarin at the Beaverton Library auditorium on Sat, March 28th from 10-12:30 pm. The library is at 12375 SW 5th St, Beaverton, OR 97005.
On Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 am, there will be an informational session in English and Cantonese at the Lee Family Association located at 1101 SE Salmon St. Portland, OR 97214.  Event Details here

The census is every 10 years and determines how much federal funding each state will get for services and it will determine how many representatives we get in Congress to represent us. You do not have to be a citizen to be counted.
